Stakeholders’ workshop
23 April 2021 – webinar – Stakeholders’ workshop on users’ need regarding sustainability assessment methods, based on a life cycle approach.
The European Green Deal, Europe’s new agenda for sustainable growth, highlights the need for reliable, comparable and verifiable sustainability information. The ORIENTING project (“Operational Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment Methodology Supporting Decisions Towards a Circular Economy”) has been created as a response to this need to develop a comprehensive and operational methodology for the life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) of products and services. The innovation of this approach lies in the integration of environmental, social and economic impacts: the aim is to evaluate the products produced under both linear and circular business models, enabling professionals to understand and manage the possible alternatives.
In the framework of the project, the development and applicability of an LCSA methodology are supported by an active engagement of stakeholders, according to a bottom-up approach: the methodology will not be developed in the realm of academic and research institutions, but co-created together with the stakeholders that will use it for e.g., supporting the different step of the product-related policy cycle, the definition of product design and development, more informed purchasing choices, just to mention some examples of decision situations.
We invite you all to register and participate in the first stakeholders’ engagement event, namely the Users’ needs workshop, which will be held online on 23 April 2021. The workshop is aimed at discussing needs and wishes of stakeholders about sustainability assessment, i.e., how stakeholders would like the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment to develop. A preliminary identification of needs and wishes has been carried out, structuring them into different levels, namely:
- Concepts and general purposes of the framework for a life cycle-based sustainability assessment.
- Methodology, tools and data (i.e., which characteristics should the methodology/tool/data have for their application by the different stakeholders?).
- Decision-contexts, i.e., which questions need to be answered about the sustainability of products/product-policies?
Stakeholders will be invited to reflect on the identified need during an interactive event, and to provide their inputs in terms of:
- Prioritizing the needs and wishes according to the different stakeholders’ types
- Identifying new needs
